If your doctor checked your urine, the results probably showed microscopic blood (can't be seen with the naked eye) and/or bacteria. If the infection isn't treated (although you have no symptoms now) it could get worse and cause you much more pain in the long run. The slight pain you are feeling in your lower left side is actually a symptom of a urinary tract infection and it could worsen. Your symptoms MAY be caused by a bladder infection. Did he do a urine analysis? The MD may have seen pus cells and blood in the urine so he diagnosed you with having a UTI.
